2022 Fellows


Yubraj’s interest in the program stemmed from his passion for social work. During the three months, Yubraj’s Community Leadership Initiative Project focused on helping other young people moderate their social media usage and introduce productive habits. Recognizing a need for social media literacy, he led pre- and post-surveys and workshops about social media addiction in two different schools in Kathmandu and Lalitpur. He provided the students with the ideas and resources, and worked with them to brainstorm solutions to minimize social media dependency.
Through her Community Leadership Initiative Project, Sheetal strived to increase awareness about preventative measures and reduce the occurrence of preventable diseases in disadvantaged communities in her home district, Sunsari. She collaborated with the local government to raise funds and gather materials for hygiene and first-aid kits. She taught over 50 attendees about water borne diseases, their prevention and home remedies. Shital organized multiple follow-ups where she focused on specific health problems as identified during her preliminary sessions with the community members.
Sangam's Community Leadership Initiative Project was on cervical cancer. For the project, he reached out to many stakeholders like the local government, hospitals and local organizations providing reproductive health services. With his project, he aimed to increase awareness among women in his community about cervical cancer and to help them get tested. He has implemented 2 sessions where he talked one on one with about 30 participants about cervical cancer and distributed informational pamphlets about the disease, and how and where to get tested. During the second phase, he organized cervical cancer screening project with help from his mentor.
Dipak's Community Leadership Initiative Project addressed gender gap in education and school enrollment in his village in Pipardadhi, Parsa. He implement his project, with guidance and support from his mentor, from an approach of personal storytelling, individualized identification of problems and potential solutions. He actively engaged concerned male members of the community in the conversations around sending the female children to school. His project has already reached 42 households and he aims to reach 50 during this project. By starting the conversation, other people in his community are also starting to talk about the issue.
Through her Community Leadership Initiative Project, Sobha worked to increase awareness about and start conversations about caste related discrimination in her community in Sindhupalchok. She worked with her mentor, the schools and her friends to conduct workshops discussing causes and implications of caste system in her current community. She  conducted a workshop with 23 attendees where she used slides, workshop activities and videos to facilitate an effective  discussion about caste system. She has also collected video and detailed feedback.
Sujata's Community Leadership Initiative Project is हाम्रो वित्तीय साक्षरता. Her project aimed to educate 100 secondar school students about financial management and independence. She collaborated with a nepal-based financial literacy organization, Finlit Nepal, to conducted workshop on financial planning, and followed up with in-person sessions and door to door visits.
Deepa's Community Leadership Initiative Project addressed issues surrounding Children's rights. During her research phase, she interacted with several children facing homelessness to gain deeper understanding about the issues. In the future, she plans to volunteer with organizations working with such vulnerable groups. She worked with her mentor to compile workshop materials and hold informative session with 30 attendees in a school about children's rights, especially focusing on vulnerable groups such as orphans and street children.
Manjil's Community Leadership Initiative Project was about misuse of technology and digital scamming. For the project, his inspiration was from his own life experiences around being targeted with a higher education opportunity related scam. His project aimed to collect data about types and prevalence of digital scams, create awareness against Digital Fraud/scam and provide strategies to identify and prevent falling for scams on social media and email. He is implemented his project at a school in Kathmandu district.
Through her Community Leadership Initiative Project, Dila tackled a very evident issue of waste management where she lives, in Kathmandu. She is took the approach of increasing awareness about reducing waste at the source. She has done a workshop with  50 attendees where she asked the students to reflect on their experiences around waste on their communities and held discussions about how waste can be reduced and managed better.
Jay’s Community Leadership Initiative Project is about children who don’t go to school in his community. For the project, he worked with his friends to visit people in his community to have discussions about importance of education. He is passionate about the issue and wanted to help fellow community members stay in school. Had identified 3 main reasons  why  kids are left out of school and has had  discussions to address those points.
